A man has been jailed for three months for beating up his mother after an argument.

David Aitkin, 23, argued with his mother over money at their home in Eagle Way, Shoebury, on November 18.

After Aitkin became abusive, Mrs Aitkin called the police, who took Aitkin to the police station.

When he was released, however, he returned to his mother's house and broke in through a rear window.

His mother tried to escape through the front door but Aitkin caught up with her and attacked her, punching her in the face three times, causing bruising and grazing.

Mrs Aitkin called the police again, who began searching for her son while she left the house and secured it.

When police went back to the house the next day they discovered Aitkin was back inside after he forced entry.

He warned police not to come in because he had a gun, but was arrested after being squirted with CS spray.

The court heard that Aitkin wished to offer apologies to his mother for his attack and that he was very remorseful for what he had done.

Aitkin pleaded guilty to common assault, criminal damage, violence to secure entry and breaching the terms of a conditional discharge.
