Weathermen today warned that south Essex is set for "significant" snowfalls by the middle of the week.

There were isolated snow showers across the county over the weekend and forecasters are predicting temperatures could dip as low as minus three degrees by the middle of the week.

The Met Office has said temperatures in the area over the next five days will struggle to get above three degrees during the day and are likely to hover around freezing point at night.

The temperature could well slip below freezing point, however, as Arctic winds pick up.
