A grandmother suffered horrendous injuries when she was attacked by a man she believes mistook her for a prostitute.

Mary Brooks, 45, was punched, kicked and needed stitches in a head wound. Her eyes were blackened and two front teeth were knocked out.

The crop-haired man accosted her in Ambleside, Southend, as she went to a nearby garage shop and set about her when she tried to evade him.
