A drivers' toll at Tarpots could be the answer to daily traffic chaos in Castle Point, according to the borough's mayor.
Charles Smith feels the idea deserves some serious consideration and should not be ignored.
He said: "I am probably going to get some stick for this but we need to find a way to reduce the constant traffic problems in Castle Point, especially at Tarpots, and this could be it."
He was quick to stress he doesn't feel locals should dip into their pockets and pay for the privilege of driving in and out of Benfleet.
Instead he thinks those people using the London Road just to pass through should be made to pay.
