The Lions Club of Grays Thurrock is changing its name.
In future it is to be known as the Lions Club of Thurrock after directors decided that this change was necessary to reflect the way in which the club operates.
Since its inception in February 1974 the club has always served the whole of the borough.
Secretary Brian Herbert said its first project was in South Ockendon and the last project undertaken was in Tilbury and that it was the intention of Lions Clubs International that other clubs would eventually be set up in the District of Thurrock.
He added: "The Lions Club of Grays Thurrock has always been a leader in serving the community and it is intended that that will continue to be.
"The club has also supported two local families in need with financial and practical support."
The club's next major event will be the sponsoring of the Snap campaign -- Say No And Phone -- being undertaken in ten senior schools in the borough to bring to their notice the dangers of drugs.
