Legal action may be taken to get the owners of an eyesore site in Clacton to tidy it up.
Tendring Council has received a number of complaints about the land in Jaywick Lane next to Wick Lodge pub.
The site, which is next to the new Bishops Park College, is overgrown and neglected.
Planning officer Peter Le Grys said efforts had been made to get the owners to clear the land and remove the outbuildings.
Chris Harriott, owner of the site, said: "It is our intention to clear the land within the next 12 weeks, weather permitting."
Councillors have given planning permission for the site to be developed for 33 new homes but they still felt there needed to be an improvement in the meantime.
Legal proceedings are to be started to order the work to be carried out
