Jason Briggs, a pupil at Fitzwimarc School, Rayleigh, was a member of the England under-16 boys team which won the gold medal at the Gordon Woodlands Schools International Pentathlon.
England were up against Ireland, Scotland and Wales in Glasgow and took three team gold medals in all -- with the under-18 girls being pipped by the Irish and having to be content with silver.
Individually, Jason finished ninth with his top performance coming in the hurdles event. Jason was one of four Essex athletes in the England set-up.
Athletes face a soggy task at Basildon's waterlogged Gloucester Park tomorrow when the senior Essex men's and women's cross-country championships are staged.
