Rail passengers travelling into London faced delays this morning after a points failure.

The problem was reported at 6.20am and engineers for Network Rail Eastern Region, which is responsible for maintaining the tracks, were on the scene shortly after 6.30am.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the problem was on the main line in the direction of London Liverpool Street and was quickly resolved by 7.05am, when trains resumed.

"It did mean there were a lot of delays because obviously it was at peak time.

"It would have unfortunately had a knock-on effect for the rest of the morning but the problem was sorted out as quickly as possible," he added.
