Chris Douglas pulled off a series of great saves to help Chelmsford to a hard won victory.
Eventually the Chieftains regained control and on 12.00 a scramble around the Dynamos net allowed Jon Beckett to get the first of the evening.
At 28.29 the Dynamos increased their lead, on another power play Dwayne Ward swept home a Beveridge pass, once again on the unguarded back post. The Chieftains were gradually clawing their way back into the match and they replied immediately on 28.50, Andy Power netting.
Then on 36.09 after a long spell of Dynamos pressure, Richard Whiting burst down the wing from a Beckett pass and fired a shot across the ice to a waitng Hannah to slam home the equaliser.
The Chieftains were on a roll. At 44.23 Hannah picked up the pieces after a Danny Wright blast, then on 46.46 a weaving run from defence by Tyrone Miller released Power who fed Beckett to score.
A series of contentious refereing decisions gave a power play to Invicta, who duly obliged by scoring with Elliot Andrews scoring at the back post on 48.25 to set up an intriging last 10 minutes.
The Chieftains scored again at 55.06 with Beckett scoring from a Power pass, the Dynamos heads went down and the Chieftains were starting to play down the clock, but once more intervention gave the Dynamos hope.
A double penalty for the Chieftains gave the Dynamos a 5 on 3 situation, but outstanding heroics by Chris Douglas kept them out and at the end of the penalties the Dynamos knew they were beaten.
Chieftains' next home match is on January 12, 6.30 at the Riverside Arena.
