The Essex property market is going strong and will continue to do so in 2003 - according to a national estate agent.

An end of year report by estate agent Strutt and Parker has said the county's property market is active and the best homes are still attracting interest and competitive bidding.

The company said a three bedroom cottage in an Essex village could cost £350,000, with a five bedroom house being worth around twice as much.

Jeremy Smallman of Strutt and Parker's Chelmsford office said: "One of the most important considerations right across the market is good communications.

"Easy access to the M11 and A12 is a great plus. This is particularly helpful for the traditional hot spots of the pretty villages on the Essex/Suffolk border."

He added buyers also looked for villages with good facilities, including pubs, shops and schools.

He said there was still a lot of confidence in the Essex property market for 2003, and prices would remain stable through the early months of the year.
