A sterling team effort in the fourth fixture of the Inter Sport Cross-Country League brought both success and disappointment for Harwich Runners.
While the juniors maintained their top-of-the-table position, the seniors found themselves at the foot of division one.
With the festive excess to be run off, 190 competitors faced an undulating three-lap course at Abbey Fields, Colchester.
Graeme Knott led the Harwich challenge in ninth spot while backing came from Jason Meachen (21st) and Harwich athlete-of-the-month Paul McClelland (32nd).
Peter Gooding again impressed in 40th spot, with ever-present Mark Doyle and Glyn Peck finishing 68th and 74th.
Ashley Thomas (80th), Roly Knott (95th) and Julian Cordwell (104th) showed why they are enjoying good cross-country campaigns.
Kate Snowling showed the Harwich women the way home in 15th position while dependable support came from Elspeth Knott (32nd) and Kate Hodgkiss (34th). Mandy Hewitt completed the quartet.
In the overall team stakes, Harwich placed sixth.
