The world's largest wind farm off Clacton is due to seek planning approval in the next few weeks.
And yesterday the company behind it said 'thank you' to residents of the town and the surrounding district for their support.
Dan Pearson, Project manager for GE Wind energy said the bulk of the reaction had been favourable: "We are very happy with the way the people of Clacton and the surrounding district has supported the project and been so positive."
The proposed offshore windfarm, 7km out to sea on the Gunfleet Sands, will consist of 30 giant wind turbines producing enough electricity to supply 85,000 homes.
It is hoped it will both boost jobs and act as an added tourist attraction.
Providing things go to plan, work onshore is due in the autumn of 2003, with offshore work continuing in 2004 and finishing by the late summer.
GE Wind Energy has promised, where possible, local suppliers and contractors will be used during its construction.
