A massive new leisure complex could be on the way for Southend, it was revealed today.
Southend Council's development control committee will be asked next Wednesday to back the plans by David Lloyd Leisure for land in Snakes Lane, Eastwood.
Included in the multi million pound development would be a an indoor racquets centre with swimming pools together with other health and fitness facilities and 312 parking spaces.
The club would also provide health and beauty facilities open to the general public, irrespective of whether they were members of the club.
David Lloyd Leisure looked at a number of sites in the town before settling on Snakes Lane.
In a report to the committee, technical services director David Watts said there was a general policy in the council to try and remedy the deficiency of indoor sports facilities in Southend.
