Demolition crews are now preparing to bulldoze a ten-year-old Canvey sheltered housing scheme where 35 elderly people used to lived.
Little Gypps Court in Little Gypps Road, Canvey, has been boarded up ready to be flattened.
Castle Point Council housing manager Ann Johnson said: "We had severe subsidence problems there. After a couple of years when we tried to repair it, it was examined by structural experts.
"It was finally decided by council members that it would be pulled down - but it was a lovely building."
All the occupants have been rehoused elsewhere - mainly in other sheltered schemes.
