Funding for a scheme which provides cash support for disabled people to get out and about is due to run out.
About 70 residents across Tendring benefit from the Essex Disabled People's Association Travel Scheme, which has been operating for three years.
Each member received £25 per month to use on a variety of transport, including train, bus, community transport and taxis.
But cash support from the lottery will run out in October, 2003, and there are fears the scheme will be under threat.
Elise O'Hara, of Alton Park Road, Clacton, is one of those who has been helped.
"I have been able to use the vouchers on a variety of modes of transport because I am disabled, on a low income and without access to a private car," said the 91-year-old.
"The scheme has been of great benefit to me enabling me to travel into the community and remain independent."
She is hoping that either Essex County Council or Tendring Council will step in to provide funding to help keep the scheme going in her area.
Tendring district and Essex county councillor Roy Smith has promised to take the matter up with both authorities after learning of Mrs O'Hara's plight.
