Southend police chief Mick Thwaites has met worried families on an estate where a man was killed on his doorstep.
The Superintendent held the talks on the Woodgrange estate in Southend to allay fears following Barry Redsull's murder.
A week ago today the 27-year-old died from multiple stab wounds outside his home in Outing Close.
Boxes have been placed on the estate where people can deposit anonymous information, and posters have gone up.
The police are ploughing resources into the hunt for the Somerfield duty manager's killer and to help residents feel safe.
Mr Thwaites said: "The impact such a horrific crime has on a community should not be underestimated. We wanted to listen to the concerns of residents and see what we need to do to allay them."
Mr Redsull was believed to have taken a train from Hockley, where he was duty manager of Somerfield, in Spa Road, to Southend Victoria station last Thursday night and then walked home to Outing Close, where he was found collapsed outside his house.
Anyone with any information should contact Mr Macey on 01245 452208 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
