Opposition to plans for a new airport at Cliffe has been renewed by Southend Council's cabinet.
Cabinet member in charge of transport Roger Weaver said: "Southend Airport must resolve the problems it has at the moment before it can rely on the fullest support of all members of this council."
David Garston, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "There would be absolutely no advantages from Cliffe for Southend.
"We would suffer all the disadvantages of disturbance, noise nuisance and housing pressures without any economic benefits."
Council leader Charles Latham said he believed if there was an airport at Cliffe it would be the end of the Government's Thames Gateway initiative and all the benefits which it was to bring to Southend.
Lib Dem group leader Graham Longleyargued opposing further expansion at Stansted Airport could damage the possible future of Southend Airport.
