Joe Royle will use tonight's Worthington Cup clash against Middlesbrough as a chance to look at some of Ipswich Town's fringe players.
Matt Holland, Darren Ambrose and Jim Magilton will be rested, allowing Tommy Miller, Jermaine Wright and Fabian Wilnis a chance to impress the new manager.
Royle said: "It will be a big game following the disappointing 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend and we will be going out to win it.
"We are not treating the competition lightly. But it will give me the opportunity of watching players that I haven't had a chance to see."
Richard Logan is set to join Darren Bent up front.
Alun Armstrong is unable to face his former side because of a hamstring injury he picked up against Crystal Palace in the League.
