A campaign has been launched to attract new families to an initiative aimed at helping children and parents in Jaywick and West Clacton.

Sure Start was set up in 2001, with about £1.5 million of Government cash to be pumped into the scheme over three years

Project leader Benjamin Mann said that while many had come forward, there were many more who could benefit from the activities and facilities on offer.

He said: "So far we have hit about 25 per cent of our catchment area target. That means there are many out there who either do not know about the programme or are not aware of how to access it and we need to get our message across to them."

Mr Mann said Sure Start was there for all parents in the catchment area with pre-school children.

The area stretches from the Wheatlands and Peter Bruff estates in Clacton, through Ruaton Gardens, Flatford Drive, Bluehouse Avenue and on to include all of Jaywick.

"The emphasis is on play, learning and health through family and wider community involvement," he added. "Both new and existing parents can benefit from a wide range of services."
