Terrified pensioners today told how a group of youngsters threw a firework through their letterbox causing damage to the porch of their home.
The couple, who do not want to be named but are in their 70s, said they were unable to sleep after the incident last night.
The husband had gone out for a short walk after dinner and noticed a group of about 20 teenagers gathered in Albany Gardens, Clacton - just yards from his home - letting off fireworks.
When he returned, he opened the porch door to find it engulfed with smoke from the rocket.
He said: "My wife was absolutely petrified by what had happened and we called the police.
"The cushion flooring in the porch was scorched and it was just lucky there were no newspapers or other materials in there which could have caught light."
