Richard Naylor believes the arrival of Joe Royle has 'reopened the door' for him at Ipswich Town.
The striker found himself frozen out at Portman Road after being cast aside by former chief George Burley.
But, under the leadership of new boss Royle, Naylor has been told he will be given his chance to shine again.
First, though, he needs to regain fitness after undergoing a knee operation last month.
He was due to see a specialist last night after failing to recover as quickly as he hoped.
And the long-serving striker told the Evening Gazette: "The old gaffer made it clear I didn't figure in his plans but now the door has been pushed open again.
"I'm a lot happier about my situation, although obviously I want to get this injury sorted as soon as possible."
