Southend United supremo Ron Martin today pledged his full support for Shrimpers manager Rob Newman.

The Third Division club have lost their last five games, but Seasiders co-owner Martin believes Newman will get Blues bouncing back to form.

"Our recent run of results are not a fair reflection of the hard work Rob Newman is doing at Roots Hall and he will continue to receive my 100 per cent backing," said Martin.

"It was only just over a week ago that we were playing the League leaders Hartlepool with a chance of going second in the table. And I am confident we are still capable of reaching those heights.

"But I do believe Rob has been let down by one or two of his players, who have failed to pull their weight and have underachieved during the recent run of defeats.

"I also think we have missed our first choice attacking duo of Mark Rawle and Tes Bramble, who have been sidelined by injury during the last few weeks."

Martin said he was looking for managerial stability at Roots Hall.

"I am not the sort of person to make a knee-jerk decision and I certainly don't believe our recent run of form should affect the management team here," he added.

Martin also said Blues' board would help Newman bring in new players. "We will do our best to be financially flexible and allow Rob to get the players he needs," he said.
