Southend overcame two key losses to continue their march at the top of London One.
Scrum-half Simon Webb was KO'd by a late tackle after 15 minutes and had to be replaced.
Then flanker James Hyde was red-carded after 64 minutes to leave Southend down as they fought off a late Cheshunt fightback.
Hyde was among the Southend scorers in the game, notching under the posts on the stroke of half-time. Further tries came from prop Dave Hyatt -- a fifth-minute catch and drive -- and debutant Aussie hooker Jade Ingham, who converted a rolling maul in the 17th minute.
Ali Chambers added two conversions and three penalties.
Cheshunt's try came from Paul Crispin on 15 minutes. It was converted by Paul Beverstock to leave Cheshunt leading briefly at 7-5.
