Colchester's former Essex cricketer Ian Flanagan was today celebrating the launch of a new career with Kent.
The 22-year-old left-handed opener has been given a one-year contract by the Division One county.
And he confessed to being 'very excited' about the prospect.
"It's a great opportunity for me," said the talented Colchester and East Essex all-rounder.
"I've been chatting with the Kent club since the end of last season and I am really pleased they have given me the contract.
"The fact that Kent batsman Robert Key has been picked for England to play in the current Ashes series out in Australia and, could be centrally contracted by the national squad next season, may have worked very well in my favour.
"If they were looking for another batsman with a good pedigree I am their man."
