Police today appealed for help in tracing a car driver who deliberately ran down a young couple outside a popular nightspot.
The couple, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were injured in the attack outside the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.
The man escaped with cuts and bruises, but the woman was knocked unconscious and had head injuries. Both left hospital after treatment.
The Dagenham couple had left the Tavern at around 2.30am on Sunday and were crossing the nearby petrol station forecourt when hit. Police believe the attack followed an earlier incident.
The car is thought to be an L-registration metallic green Rover 200. Three white youths were inside.
Det Con Kevin Shannon, of Grays CID, said: "This couple were deliberately run down."
