A teenager who accepted a lift to a nightclub was assaulted and robbed of his gold chains.
The victim was in Queen Street, Colchester, early on Saturday morning when two men offered to drive him to Kings in Copford.
In return he was asked to show them the way on to the A12.
After he got into their car, the 18-year-old was punched in the face and had three gold chains snatched from his neck.
He was left with cuts and bruises and later punched a window in frustration at the attack, injuring his wrist.
Two police officers gave him first aid at the scene.
After the robbery, reported at 1am, the two men drove off the wrong way along Queen Street.
Shortly afterwards, a car was stopped in the same road by police and a 16-year-old from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He was released on bail for further inquiries.
Det Sgt Roger Napier, of Colchester CID, urged people to think of their personal safety at all times.
