Three men of Kosovan origin have died after the car they were travelling in landed upside down in a ditch in Tilbury.
The men were among five people - four men and a woman - travelling along Dock Approach Road when their K-reg blue Vauxhall Cavalier left the carriageway in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The car then skidded about 30 metres across a field before ending up almost totally submerged on its roof in a drainage dyke. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, and also want to speak to anyone who came into contact with the man and woman who had escaped.
Anyone who saw the car travelling between Basildon and Tilbury or witnessed the accident should call PC Kevin Gladman at Laindon Road Policing Unit on 01268 541312.
