Politicians and campaigners called on the people of south Essex to stand up and be counted in the fight against the proposed Cliffe airport.
They warned Cliffe is not only the Government's number one option for a new hub airport, it was their only option.
Speakers at a public meeting in Leigh Community Centre were also outraged the Government had not seen fit to send out information about Cliffe to Essex residents, although some live only 2000 yards away from the Kent site - which could become the world's biggest airport.

The packed hall was told everyone opposed to the airport must petition their MP and council to ensure their voice is heard before the end of the Government's consultation period on Saturday, November 30.
Joan Goddard, chairman and co-founder of the No Airport at Cliffe Action Group, said: "This consultation is not only flawed it is inhuman and immoral.
"The implications of the proposal are grave for all of us - some people who live in Castle Point are just 2,000 yards from the proposed airport and were not made aware of it by the Government."
David Amess, MP for Southend West, made it clear the meeting was to give people a chance to air their views, not an anti-airport rally.
However, not one person in the hall backed the plan.
