Only the British would stand in the pouring rain listening to Land of Hope and Glory while sticking it out to the end of a fireworks display.
This was the observation that struck organisers of Maldon Rotary Club's 27th fireworks display at the Promenade Park on Saturday.
Bang - spectators watch the fireworks display at Maldon's Promenade Park on Saturday.
Everything went according to plan despite appalling weather conditions and a low attendance of a few thousand.
Those who braved the event, refused to have their spirits dampened and a few spectators even thought it was the best show yet.
Rotary club spokesman, Bill Geller, said: "It was absolutely tipping it down, nevertheless a couple of people said the fireworks were even better than before.
"It struck me that we were being typically British standing in the pouring rain, listening to patriotic music and sticking it out to the end."
