League fixtures gave way to FA Trophy 1st Round ties on Saturday for our Ryman Division One North sides, with Harlow Town making it through to Round Two at the first attempt.

Visitors Wealdstone will however wonder how they failed to at least gain a replay from this tie, dominating for long spells and enjoying significant possession.

They couldn't make it count however, and a goal in each half from Gary Ansell and Steve Blaney sees the Hawks through to Round Two.

East Thurrock bowed out of the competition at home to Ryman Premier title contenders Kingstonian. Steve Sedgley's men often knew too much for the Division One newboys, and goals from Graeme Tomlinson (2) and Mark Jones ensured a relatively pain-free passage.

Aveley have come a long way in the last couple of seasons, and a measure of their progress was shown in the way they held Dr Martens Premier side Weymouth for 80 minutes.

Darren Curran gave the Essex men the lead in a whirlwind first-half that could have seen either side two or three up.

The turning point came with the reckless dismissals of Jimmy Stevens and Neil Lacey, either side of half-time for Aveley, and the Terras equalised from the spot from Mark Rawlinson.

Ten minutes away from a replay, the nine men finally succummed to incessant Weymouth pressure, as hotshot striker Lee Phillips made it 2-1 on 80 minutes.

Marc Whiteman added a third in the last minute and Julian Charles completed a somewhat flattering scoreline in injury time.

Great Wakering Rovers earned themselves another bite of the cherry however thanks to Paul Pilkington's stopage time equaliser against Ford United.

Ford, oner off the bottom of the Ryman Premier, led through Alex Fiddes and Glen Poole goals after Gary Ewers had given the hosts a first-half lead.

The short trip to East London for the replay will be made on Tuesday evening.

One Division One North league fixture did go ahead, though it was Wivenhoe suffering a reverse of their excellent form of late, falling 3-0 at home to high-flying Yeading.

Ryman League's very own Alan Shearer, Errol Telemaque, hit the first, and further goals from Leon Woodruffe and Danny Jordan sees the visitors climb to 5th.

Wivenhoe, who could have climbed into the top half for the first time this season, are 14th.
