Steve McGavin will taste his first experience of management this weekend as he takes charge of Harwich and Parkeston in the 'battle of the bottom two' in the Jewson League premier division.
And a win for the former Colchester United forward would see his Harwich side leap-frog their Ely opponents.
McGavin met up with his squad for the first team in their training session on Wednesday evening.
And he admitted: "I've watched a few games at Jewson League level recently but have not watched Ely.
"It really is a step into the unknown for me."
He was, however, pleasantly surprised with his new squad: "I was very impressed with the players and I think with a little bit more direction and organisation we should hopefully start picking up points on a regular basis."
