South Essex campaigners were meeting as part of a nationwide Don't Attack Iraq day with the aim of highlighting opposition to a possible war with the Middle Eastern state.

Branch organiser David Murray said he was pleased to have seen a cross section of the community represented at the event. He said: "It was good. We are very positive and people are starting to understand the peace movement does have an effect on the war movement."
