Plans for an international airport at Cliffe have been dealt a further blow after Castle Point Council's planning committee rejected the proposal.

Members voted against any new hub airport - and the expansion of any existing airports - in south Essex.

They did accept there would be further development in the future, but voiced their concerns about the economic and environmental implications for Castle Point.

The Government has unveiled plans for a £11.5billion airport at Cliffe, in north Kent, which would be just across the Thames from Canvey. Proposals include a tunnel linking south Essex with Kent.
