A quick-thinking caretaker's son stopped a severe blaze at a Wickford school farm turning into a barbecue.
Chickens at Castledon School were saved after he doused the shed in water until firefighters arrived.
The blaze, at the special school, has left pupils and teachers devastated as the farm is now out of bounds after £6,000 damage to a hay barn.
Two men have been arrested.
