Braintree Council has said it will look into the problem of funding repairs for rented garages.

At a meeting of Braintree's full council last night, Barbara Buchan (Ind, Braintree West), raised concerns about the increase in council garage rents leading to residents parking on the roads and adding to congestion.

"The rents for council-owned garages are increasing at an alarming rate, with the resultant effect that people are giving them up and parking their vehicles on the road," she said.

"Surely it makes sense to bring these rents down to affordable levels, thereby increasing the uptake which, in turn, will increase income."

In response, Eileen Davidson, lead member for housing, said the rent levels for garages were now at a level which represented value for money.
