An angry trick-or-treat victim today warned residents to be on their guard against youngsters who take Halloween pranks too far.

Although Halloween is not until tomorrow some youngsters have been causing mischief all week. The majority of the fun is good-natured but some has been getting out of hand.

John Lambert, 56, of Barnstaple Road, Southend, said: "There was a knock on the door while I was eating dinner and it was a youngster with a mask on asking for trick or treat.

"I was polite and told him I was not interested. My son had come round to visit and when he went out to his car a short while later he found the whole side light assembly had been wrenched out.

"I reported it to the police but I think people need to take care when dealing with some of these youngsters.
