Clacton Town started their defence of the Jewson League Cup in style by demolishing Stanway Rovers 5-1 at the Rush Bowl Green.
The Seasiders were three goals up before the half-hour mark. Matt Waters hit the first, followed by Ian Brown and Sean Hillier.
Stanway pulled one back through Blake Saker.
However, in the second half, goals by Sean Hillier and Russ McClean put the result beyond doubt.
Stanway manager Steve Ball admitted: "The better team won by a mile."
Maldon and Halstead were also involved in Jewson League Cup matches.
Maldon went 2-0 up against Kings Lynn Reserves at Park Drive, before the visitors levelled matters before half-time.
After the restart, Maldon put Kings Lynn Reserves to the sword when Shane Bailey, Craig Newman and a brace from Scott Witney saw Town romp home 6-2.
Halstead pulled back two goals in three minutes during the second half to take their cup match against Cornard to extra-time but ended up losing 5-2.
Matthew Chinnery and Jimmy Chatters were Halstead's scorers but, two minutes into the extra-time, the visitors regained their lead and then added another two in the closing stages.
