A roadshow will be looking to find Thurrock's brightest spark when it visits Lakeside shopping centre on Saturday.
Shoppers will be invited to take part in a quick-fire quiz challenge and their answers will help raise a small fortune for charity.
Thurrock's deputy mayor Gerard Rice will be among the hundreds of hopefuls challenging for the title of Brightest Spark.
British Gas is organising the event in aid of Save The Children and the roadshow has been visiting centres throughout the UK.
A spokesman said: "It will give shoppers the chance to reveal their trivia knowledge live on stage when they compete against other contestants in a timed, quick-fire quiz.
"British Gas will be donating £1 to the children's charity for each question answered correctly."
The event is to take place between 11am and 5pm.
