A campaign to combat bogus callers has been launched by police.

Tendring Police Division is pioneering the initiative in an effort to foil callers who target vulnerable pensioners in their own homes.

About 10,000 advisory cards are being distributed throughout the district which have 'I do not open the door to strangers' written on them.

Calvin Heal, crime reduction officer for Tendring, said if people have doubts about a person at their front door they should hold the card up to the window and should not open the door.

He said: "This is a great initiative that will protect vulnerable people in the district. Some Frinton residents have already started to get them and the Neighbourhood Watch in Frinton think they are a great idea."
