Action is being called for in a bid to clean up a town centre eyesore.
The bus shelter in Market Place, Braintree, has long been a target for vandalism.
Since it was installed more than two years ago, the shelter has had a number of things thrown at it, including eggs and paint.
A number of town centre businesses are concerned the state of the shelter gives the wrong impression to visitors to Braintree.
Brian Cutmore, of Crossman Investments, said: "The bus shelter and Market Place are the first thing most people see when they get to Braintree. But what sort of impression do they get when they see the bus shelter in such a poorly-kept state?"
Peter Tattersley, head of environmental services at Braintree Council, said he would put the bus shelter on the inspection cycle for the rapid response clean team.
He said: "It's the first I have heard there is a problem at the bus shelter."
