Campaigners against the widening of Priory Crescent in Southend said today they were "stunned" by the continuing strength of public support for their battle.
Although the road has now passed fully through all its stages at the council, members of the Parklife group manned a campaign point in the High Street at the weekend.
Members of the public were urged to oppose the road by writing to Go East, the Government office for the East of England.
They want Go East to recommend not giving the council an extra £4.8million to complete the road.
