Traders in Wickford are set to receive a stern message from Wickford Police in the run up to Halloween - don't sell eggs to youngsters.
Eggs have been used as a common trick for trick or treaters around the Halloween season, and police are urging shop keepers not to sell eggs to young people.
Pc Geoff Whiter from Wickford Police said throwing eggs often causes some residents distress, especially elderly people.
He said: "At this time of year, there does tend to be an increase in youth nuisance to residents where eggs are thrown at properties."
"In most cases no permanent damage is done, but there is always a risk of windows being smashed or some staining being caused.
"I am currently going around all the retailers in Wickford where eggs are sold asking shop keepers to be prepared and to refuse the sale of eggs to young people."
Any traders wanting further information can call Pc Geoff Whiter on 01268 244046.
