There will soon be some new eyes keeping a watch on our streets.
Colchester Council has announced its latest offensive in the battle to keep the town looking tidy.
A new team of workers will be out and about in the borough from Monday
Eight officers will be patrolling the area to make sure it is being kept clean and facilities, such as public toilets, are being properly maintained.
Eventually the new officers will be able to issue £50 on-the-spot fines to anyone they see dropping litter or making a mess.
The move to create the team of street care officers came after a survey earlier this year showed residents were disgusted at the unkempt state of Colchester's streets.
John Simpson, of the council, said: "We will be putting more resources into frontline services and ensuring our streets and facilities are well maintained and clean.
"All our new street care officers are very experienced professionals committed to delighting our customers with the quality of the service they provide."
