A new directory of Essex craftworkers has just been published listing more than 150 in the area.
It has been compiled by the Guild of Essex Craftsmen which was established in 1984 to promote quality craftswork in the county.
All members are by invitation only, chosen at a selection evening each April, where the panel not only check the quality, finish and originality of the work but also make sure it is not a franchised or imported craft.
A spokesman said: "This edition lists scores of people who are busy ensuring that old skills do not die out and encouraging newcomers to develop their hobbies and interests.
"Many of those listed within its pages work at their craft full time, while for others it is a paying hobby or a valuable supplement to their regular income.
"A very wide variety of talents is listed, from artists of many kinds, using various media and bases, to beeking, jewellery making, porcelain, spinning and weaving, toymaking and woodworking.
Copies of the directory are available free from the Guild's Press Officer, David Nathan, by sending a self addressed 9in by 6in envelope bearing two first or second class stamps to him at 34, Pembroke Road, Ilford, Essex, IG3 8PH.
