Youngsters learned about taking pride in their community when they took part in a litter pick in Braintree.
On Saturday children helped to clear the area surrounding the community office in Howard Close and Bartram Avenue.
As encouragement, the litter pick was sponsored and the money raised will be used to fund a fun activity for the volunteers.
Once they had scoured the streets for litter, the youngsters returned to sort and weigh it all before it was taken to the recycling depot in Lakes Road.
Jo Petchey, who helped organise the clean-up, said: "It went really well, we have picked up all sorts: wrappers, plastic bottles, paper, boxes, anything you could imagine."
In total 25 sacks were collected for recycling including some 130 bottles.
