The rare sound of Basildon's glass belltower rang out in memory of a former churchwarden - and the lights were switched on for the first time.
The quarter-peal was performed before a free concert in memory of Lorna Whitt, 55, a deputy churchwarden for St Martin's Church, in St Martin's Square, who died in April.
Her husband Ron, 66, said: "It is quite a tribute to her."
