Residents in the Tendring district were still without power today after a falling trees damaged overhead lines.
A conifer fell at about 10am yesterday morning and homeowner Peggy Richards, of Little Clacton, feared damaged power lines might cause serious injury.
Mrs Richards, 75, of Harwich Road, near Plough Corner, said she believed five wires in the road were live.
But along with her neighbours in Harwich Road, they found the phone lines to the power company 24seven were constantly engaged.
In other incidents around the district, fire crews were called to cut away a tree after it fell through a fence and hedge in Dixon Avenue, Clacton, and police were alerted after a 40ft tree at the Waterglade Retail Park at Clacton fell behind Homebase and blocked rear access to the store.
A member of the public alerted police after branches from a large oak tree fell over Church Hill Road, Lawford. Small vehicles were able to use the road by going underneath the branch.
