Colchester United conceded an equaliser in injury-time to draw 1-1 with Huddersfield at the McAlpine Stadium.

Substitute Scott McDonald's shot hit the bottom of the post and forward Jon Stead tapped in the rebound to score his third goal of the season.

Colchester went 1-0 up early on as Kevin Rapley ran on to Scott McGleish's through ball and calmly finished with a low shot underneath goalkeeper Scott Bevan.

Mark Warren should have added to the goal tally for Colchester but headed straight at Bevan from close range.

Huddersfield battled hard against a well-organised Colchester defence with Martin Smith having a shot cleared off the line and an overhead kick saved by Simon Brown.

And just when it seemed former U's boss Mick Wadsworth's team had run out of ideas on Saturday, Stead popped up with the equalising goal.
