Local railway users can be confident of safety on the platform as Benfleet station was named as one of the country's most secure stations.
This means that it has reached national standards in station, passenger and staff security by providing a safe environment for passengers and staff.
Castle Point MP Bob Spink today congratulated rail operators on the achievement, but urged that improvements to the rail service continue to be made.
He said: "I am delighted to see that Benfleet station is secure, although I hope to see improvements on the ground."
