GOVERNORS at an Ashingdon school were today forced to make a last minute decision whether to keep their school open after several travellers set up camp on their playing field.

Around ten caravans drove onto the playing field of Ashingdon County Primary school in Main Road, Ashingdon on Friday evening.

Worried parents immediately called police who visited the travellers and threatened to keep their children out of school if the were not moved.

One parent - who asked not to be named - called the Echo, saying: "They had let their dogs run around the playing fields where the children often eat their meals.

"A lot of the parents are worried and are saying if they are still there on Monday they won't take their children to school."
